With its temperate climate and favourable exchange rate South Africa is currently poised as the perfect getaway destination. The ideal starting point is the bustling metropolis of Johannesburg, where first and third worlds meet.
Experience life in a South African Township with local guide Jeffrey Mulaudzi of Alexandra Bicycle Tours. Cyclists meet the people, taste the food and bask in the warm atmosphere of township dwellings. Jeffrey takes tourists to various heritage sites around Alexandra Township including a local shebeen (tavern), a school, bustling city centre. “I want people to come and interact with Alex and its people, because touring in a bus is like visiting a zoo,” brags the tour owner.
Nature lovers can’t afford to miss Delta Park, a haven for cyclists and an ambler’s paradise. Get your hotel or guest house to pack a picnic hamper and ride, relax, and feast your eyes on the greenery. There is also a sensory trail and bird viewing at the Florence Bloom Bird Sanctuary. Delta Park offers 104 hectares of grassland and woodland to explore as well as three beautiful tree-lined dams. Walking clubs and mountain bikers especially enjoy the park’s multitude of trails.
